This
continental breakfast seminar provided an opportunity to learn how New
England’s fishermen and scientists are joining, and in some cases, leading
the global cooperative research movement. “ICES 2006” was a five-day
symposium in Boston last fall that focused on technological, ecological, and
socio-economical facets of mobile and static gear fisheries for finfish and
shellfish. The meeting drew people from 31 countries, including local
fishermen, scientists and others. Of the 147 verbal presentations and
posters, many were based on cooperative research in the Northwest Atlantic,
23 of which were of projects funded by the Northeast Consortium. This Forum
seminar recapped ICES, with project posters on display and presentations of
symposium highlights.
