The 2006 bottom water temperatures were, in
general, warmer than they have been since the eMOLT program began in 2001.
Since lobstermen have now compiled more than 2.5 million hourly values at
dozens of fixed locations, we can start looking at “deviations about the
means”. Attendees discovered just how warm it was this past year and why.
Further developments in “real-time temperature probe” program were presented
as well as an update on the “drifter” program which began in 2004. The 2006
drifters documented some especially interesting patterns in the circulation
around the gulf. While the first half-hour included a presentation of
results, participants spent the second half-hour discussing specific
protocol and the future of the program.
