Herring Management
Under NEFMC Amendment 1 and ASFMC Amendment 2
 

    
     Significant changes are underway in herring management under joint NEFMC, ASMFC FMPs after years of discussion and debate.  Most significant are limited access and a midwater trawl / pair trawl seasonal prohibition in Area 1A.  Various interests are trying to figure out what it will mean to folks in the herring industry or those who rely on herring for bait or food production.  It is important for fishermen to understand what changes have been made.  The panelists in this session described the changes and gave their views on issues that will need to be watched and addressed in the next few years.
