What's New With eMolt
Environmental Monitors on Lobster Traps
|
|
|
|
Attendees received a review and update of the Emolt
project. This year, several lobstermen deployed “drifters” built by
students at SMCC to track currents in the Gulf of Maine. More than 100
temperature probes continue to be deployed by lobstermen throughout the Gulf
of Maine. The data from the project is used to better understand changes in
oceanographic factors and how they affect lobsters. Attendees saw for
themselves how bottom temperatures from 2004 compare to previous years and
what we learned from the drifter deployments. Following the presentation of
the project’s findings, eMOLT participants and other interested parties were
invited to participate in a discussion of the eMOLT protocols and the
development of a new “real time” temperature probe. Attendees shared
thoughts on their vision for the future of eMOLT.
