The North Atlantic Oscillation
El Nino of the East Coast and How it May Affect Maine Fisheries
 

     Since 1860, scientists have been tracking the fluctuations of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) and now can link changes in the New England weather patterns to variations in the NAO.  More recently fishery scientists have been able to link changes in this large scale phenomena to changes in the Gulf of Maine and its fisheries.  This session provided an overview of the NAO, how its effects are monitored in the Gulf of Maine and its potential impact on fisheries and other marine life.
