Attendees joined the Maine Lobster Promotion Council (MLPC) to learn more
about the results from their recent consumer and trade research findings.
Harvesters were invited to review the results and provide the MLPC with
input on future strategies and tactics for marketing and promoting lobster
from Maine.
The Maine lobster brand is pristine, arguably the
finest brand for a natural resource food product. Our positive brand
perception is critical to maintaining stable, sustainable pricing levels
throughout the industry. Despite these perceptions, there is little data
available to understand consumer attitudes and buying behavior. The MLPC
has initiated research in two areas: 1. Trade and consumer research
regarding attitudes and usage of Maine lobster within the U.S. market; and
2. Development of a strategic plan for the Maine lobster industry which
integrates the findings of the research.
The objective is to assist the Maine lobster industry
in developing markets and promoting the sale of Maine lobster with maximized
and sustained return to the industry. The MLPC is also analyzing market
data for the Maine lobster industry and competitive industries regarding
growth, distribution, exports, and market share. The MLPC will consider all
of these elements in a comprehensive analysis of the industry and
marketplace, which should be completed in early spring. This information
will be used to develop a long-term strategy to maintain the premium brand
positioning of lobster from Maine.
