Collaborative research has been underway in Maine and the
rest of New England for several years. The Northeast Consortium and the
Cooperative Partners Research Initiative, two major funders of collaborative
research, have been supporting projects that involve many fishermen.
However, given the current level of competition for funding, how are good
ideas developed, revised, and ultimately become successful proposals that
get funded? What are the rules of the proposal review game? What criteria
are used to select the successful proposals? What do you do next if your
proposal is not funded? These and other questions were addressed as we
discussed how to navigate the grant writing process and get involved in
collaborative research..
