Drawing
on the work completed at last year’s forum, this session engaged fishermen
and other stakeholders in identifying a process for receiving information
from and providing input to the National Marine Protected Area (MPA)
Advisory Committee. Attendees received an update on actions regarding MPAs
within the last year at the state and national level, and information about
how these actions have applied or may apply to Maine. The session included
an overview of the federal process for developing a national list and
inventory of MPAs, the progress toward these goals in the last year, and the
outcome of public comments on criteria proposed for developing these lists.
The session also highlighted a number of Maine projects and case studies
related to MPAs. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions and
provide input during the session.
