Drifter Training
The eMOLT project will be deploying drifters over the summer and fall of
2004 to help better understand how ocean currents affect the lobster
population. This “Drifter Training” was for lobstermen who are
participating in the program to learn how to build and deploy the drifters
for this project.
What’s New with eMOLT?
Attendees learned more about the eMOLT project. More than 100 temperature
probes have been deployed by lobstermen from 4 different associations
throughout the Gulf of Maine. The data from the project is used to help
better understand changes in oceanographic factors and how they affect
lobsters. Attendees saw for themselves how far off the bottom temperatures
were in 2003 vs. previous years. Attendees that have temperature probes
were invited to bring them, along with their logsheets to have them read.
